He was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky, and attended the University of Kentucky for his undergraduate studies, where he received his Bachelor of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering. His research focuses on microplastics, water quality, and the evaluation of modern water infrastructure. His MS project involves researching microplastics and Legionella within common Kentucky wastewater infrastructure. After completing his degree, Isaac plans to continue his career in environmental engineering by pursuing stormwater management and ensuring water quality for the Commonwealth. She is from Livonia, MI where she lived until moving to Lexington to complete her undergraduate and MS degrees from the University of Kentucky. For her MS, Katherine worked with Dr. Tiffany Messer to research the capabilities of wetland treatment systems to remove nutrients and improve water quality from treated wastewater treatment plant effluent and the potential impacts of bourbon stillage applied to wetland treatment systems. Katherine plans to continue her MS research with Dr. Messer and expand her research into understanding the dynamics between PFAS and wetland treatment systems.
